It has been great that I was teaching this semester as I had to also figure out ways to move everything on line. Fortunately, my class was used to some distance lecturing. When I was in DC in early March, I Zoomed into class as did our guest for the day, Paul Porter, who was in Orlando.
So we made the transition a couple of weeks ago, and this week we really got back into the swing, including having guests drop in from Philadelphia (Dr. Marc Lamont Hill) and Memphis (Dr. Charles Hughes). Lots of good discussion as usual.
I bought some cheap lights so I could create a space to record short lectures as well as give verbal feedback on assignments using our platform, Canvas. This house has a bar area (which we never use), so it’s the perfect studio. I recorded my lecture for the week and set the table for our discussion as we continue to look at hip hop, sex, gender and ethical behavior.
So we’re making it work in this new era. Assessing this will be important as more people will promote on line education. It’s cool, but I still like sharing the physical space with the class.
