As we get to the end of the semester, things come fast and furious. So on a Friday night I am happy just to put my feet up! Here is a glimpse in the life of a president.
Did my bi-weekly one on one meetings with my direct reports, which basically take all day. But had to run to my son’s school for their USA Day presentations. His state was North Carolina as you might guess.
More meetings, including two panel discussions with graduating seniors to get impressions of their time at Dillard. This is always great to compare since I do lunches with freshman (above) all during the year.
Drove to Baton Rouge to meet with the president of the University of Louisiana system and the State School Superintendent to do some brainstorming on hazing. Of course Louisiana made national news with the death at LSU, so we’re trying to see how can K-12 and higher ed partner to address this issue. STAY TUNED….
I chair the board of the Louisiana Independent Colleges and Universities (LAICU), and we held our spring telephonic meeting. I ran over to the freshman convocation to give out my awards for students who are in the PODUS group who work the lectures, as well as my Diaper Dandies, the freshmen I anticipate will have stellar careers.
We had our year end PODUS lunch, then I had my last class (hip hop, sex, gender and ethical behavior) where I get ideas about what works well in the class, what we can improve, and any new ideas for assignments. The seniors then took their final where they had to analyze this song using the ethical theories, texts, videos, lectures, etc.
Ran home, worked out, came back for the student life awards (which were great). Congrats to all the winners
Opened the paper this morning, saw Dillard alumna LaSharron Purvis. She is a great actress, has always been. Then went over to the gym to welcome over 200 high school seniors as part of the 5th annual senior shout out day where they announce where they are going to school. (The really savvy ones are coming to Dillard of course; praying for the others).

Had another great lunch with my freshmen
And then attended the College of Business senior awards banquet. We have some really sharp business graduates who have made a tremendous mark on Dillard.
So I am happy not to have any engagements this weekend- I have been on the go for 2 weeks straight. So a weekend to catch my breath before heading to New York Monday to meet with the National Urban League.
Oh yeah, a lot happening in the news which is going to create more interest in commencement…
