We just finished our season, losing in the conference finals. I’ve watched the team grow over the past two years under our new head coach. We were probably a year ahead of schedule. We are graduating 3 seniors (including conference player of the year), but only have 1 junior. So there were many times during the year when there were sophomores and freshman on the court.

One of my Brother President’s commented to me that he could tell I really love volleyball. I often tweet from the games. I know for most it isn’t a glamor sport, but I really like the energy and teamwork that goes into the sport. I always followed it at Philander as well, but the personalities on the Dillard team have been compelling — they make you love the sport by the way you play. And maybe even more than that- they’re good people. You just have to love them!

I always like to do a couple of pop up games where I just show up, out of town. I was able to do 2 this year. My kids love these trips too. When Benjamin went with me to Jackson he was really into the game. The team really appreciates the support, and they won both out of town games I attended. In fact, after the Milsaps game one of their fans said that he really loved watching them play- that they were a fun team.

I agree. I’ll miss our seniors as they represent the core of the rebuilding for Dillard volleyball. But I am already ready for next year. It is time for a new champion in the GCAC!
