Dillard Notables of 2018: #7 The Guest List

Over the past few years I started doing a year end listing of events at Dillard. It looks like I first did this at the end of 2015. I found the link from my old Blogspot site I used:

So each day I will provide a list of notable events during the year. Number 7 this year is the guest list. This has been another great year of guests, and I guess there are some general categories. Some are simply annual events (like Founders Day and Honors convocation), special freshman convocations, and the like. Some of those speakers have included:

Queen Sugar cast members Kofi Siriboe and Nicholas Ashe

I have been able to attract some really interesting folks to come speak for my class on hip hop, sex, gender and ethical behavior. In 2018 we hosted:

The last major category is the Brain Food lecture series. We started this in 2013. Over the past year we have had dynamic speakers but the series really has not caught on in New Orleans. So 2019 will probably be the last year of the series and move more to pop up lectures, along with our annual Martin Luther King service and Ortique Lecture on Law and Society. It is a shame because this is probably the most diverse series of its kind in the nation. So I’ll have to come up with some creative ways to provide the students with this kind of exposure.

Brain Food in 2019 will feature all alums, starting with Rev. Pat Watson from Watson Family Ministries.
